El Patio de Pili, 2018
The components of this installation- a terracota floor, a clothesline, and a radio- construct a fragmentary space reminiscent of my abuelita Pili’s patio in Cali, Colombia. The inaccessibility of this site becomes clear as the tiles are erased by a daily act of domestic labor. A nearby antenna broadcasts a live stream of Olimpica Estéreo, a local Colombian station for a Chicago audience that fills the air with both sound and radio waves.
Image transfer on fabric, bleach solution, steel cable, AM/FM radio, FM transmitter, found washcloths, pine, PVC piping.
Antenna and Radio transmitter, broadcasting Olimpica Estéreo (104.5 FM. Cali, Colombia)
